The celebration of Child Life Month continues, here is a guest post from Amanda Porter on how she discovered the field of child life.


I first found out about Child Life while my mom was working on the Pediatric Oncology Unit in Las Vegas, Nevada. I would often times come to work with my mom and work on homework in the family room, so I got to observe many of the employees at work, one of them being a CCLS. I originally thought I was going to be a Pediatric Oncologist, but that route wasn’t for me. So, I thought I would follow around a Child Life Specialist and see exactly what they did. I fell in love.
